Knitting workshop: Top down cardigan construction with lace pattern

Learn to knit a garment from the top down without seams, and discover how to seamlessly weave beautiful, airy lace patterns into your work. An educational day full of technique, relaxation, and a delicious lunch in the heart of Bruges.

Do you dream of knitting a sweater or cardigan that fits perfectly, without having to sew separate panels together afterward? During this workshop, we dive into the world of Top-Down knitting. We combine this popular construction method with the elegance of lace patterns (eyelets).

Sabine or Violette will explain step-by-step how to build a garment starting from the shoulders or neckline. You will learn how to shape your knitwear while simultaneously knitting a sophisticated motif. We keep the group small so that everyone receives personal assistance with every increase or yarn over.

What will you learn today?

Morning: The Logic of Top-Down & Lace

• The Top-Down Method: How do you start at the top? We examine how the shoulders and back are shaped (as seen in the Arrow Vest) and how to add the sleeves later.
• Charts & Symbols: Learn how to read a lace chart and how it evolves along with your increases.
• Balanced Increases: We will practice M1L/M1R (make one left/make one right) increases and how to combine them with a yarn over for the lace motif.

Afternoon: Start Your Own Masterpiece

• Choose your project: Start with the Arrow Vest (the perfect example of this technique).
• Personal Guidance: We will help you with the cast-on and the first critical rows of your new project, ensuring you truly master the technique.
• Tips & Tricks: How do you spot a mistake three rows down, and how do you fix it in a top-down construction?
