Workshop knitting: My first top

Have you mastered the basics of knitting, but don’t quite dare to start a real garment yet? Make the leap from a scarf to a piece of clothing! During this day, we will knit the foundation of your very first top together.

Knitting a garment that actually fits: that is every beginner's dream. In this workshop, we take away all the guesswork. We focus on the First Knit Top, a design that excels in simplicity and style. No complicated calculations, just a clear explanation of how to turn a strand of wool into a wearable piece of clothing.

Sabine or Violette will guide you through the crucial steps. We keep the group small and the atmosphere relaxed. By the end of the day, you will not only have a significant portion knitted, but you’ll also understand the full logic of the pattern so you can finish it at home with confidence and joy.

What will you learn today?

Morning: The Perfect Start

• Sizing & Gauge Swatches: Why is that $10\times 10$ cm square so important? We’ll learn how to choose your size and how to count stitches.
• The Cast-On: We’ll learn a beautiful, elastic cast-on that is perfect for the edge of a top.
• Shaping: How do you knit a nice neckline or armhole? We’ll practice the increases and decreases that give your top the perfect fit.

Afternoon: Getting Started on Your Top

• Project Launch: Choose your yarn (like our soft Cotton Cloud) and cast on your very own First Knit Top.
• Help with the First Rows: The first few inches are the most exciting. We’ll be right there with you to check if every stitch is placed correctly.
• Finishing Tips: How do you weave in ends and "block" your work for a professional result?

What’s included?

• Guidance: 6 hours of personal tips and tricks from Sabine or Violette.
• Culinary: Unlimited coffee, tea, and treats + a delicious lunch (fresh soup & gourmet sandwiches).
• Practice Materials: Use of knitting needles and practice yarn during the instruction.
• Ambiance: An inspiring day in our cozy studio (Boomgaardstraat 7, Bruges).

What’s not included?

The yarn kit and the needles for your top are not included and can be purchased on-site.

• Level: You can knit and purl comfortably. This is the ideal "next step" after your first scarf!
